At the end of March we had an opportunity to get passport services right here in New Mexico.
A big thank you to the Representatives of the Consulate
General of Poland in Los Angeles for answering our needs and making their first
Consular outreach to NM happen.
It was a pleasure to be involved in this project and I’d like
to share some of my thoughts and feelings connected with the event.
Aside from the passport applications, the Consular outreach
gave our small Polish community a chance to meet and get to know each other
better. It was great seeing so many new
faces. I found out I have Polish neighbors and that there are more Polish people
living in my part of town. I will always remember the couple I met at the store
one week before the outreach who didn’t know about any Polish activities
happening in town, and yes, they needed an appointment with the Consul!
I need to thank everyone who came to Cedar Crest on March 26th,
both from our state and guests from Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado. Your cooperation, patience and understanding
were crucial in making that day successful. Thank you to Halina, the President
of NM Polonez, for her presence and help.
Thanks to Barbara who baked delicious bread for this occasion. Last but
not least, I need to thank Grace and Jon Piotrowicz who were wonderful hosts
and once again opened their house to the Polish community.
When should we expect another Consular visit to New Mexico? No
sooner than in 2 years, unless there’s a group of 30 people ready to apply for
a passport, at that point we can approach the Consulate to consider visiting
Albuquerque at an earlier date.
